Alpha Omega Academy Hosts First Combination Onsite-Virtual Graduation
Rock Rapids, IA (May 26, 2012) - Alpha Omega Academy, a fully accredited private online school for grades K-12, held its first combination onsite-virtual graduation ceremony on May 25, 2012.
Three graduates attended the ceremony at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, near AOA's headquarters in Rock Rapids, Iowa, while 14 graduates from the United States, Canada, Thailand, and Hungary participated in the live ceremony online.
The formal cap-and-gown event included an address given by Dr. Carl Zylstra, the president of Dordt College, and a presentation of diplomas, which included recognition of the graduates who participated online.
AOA faculty and teachers attended the Iowa ceremony and offered singing and a specially written song for the graduates. Students who physically attended the Iowa ceremony also participated in a day-away field trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and toured the AOA headquarters in Rock Rapids, Iowa, prior to the ceremony.
AOA project manager Joseph Bakker said that although the onsite-virtual ceremony went well, he hopes more graduates attend future ceremonies. In addition to the Iowa ceremony, graduations were held this year in Arlington, Texas, and Orlando, Florida.
