Graphic Artist/Designer (Iowa)


Alpha Omega Publications is currently seeking a graphic designer for full-time employment at its Rock Rapids, Iowa, corporate headquarters. This is meaningful work producing curriculum for the education market. The ideal candidate is organized, deadline-driven, enthusiastic, and able to accept responsibility, communicate effectively, and work independently as well as with team members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Helps develop and maintain plan for organization's print presence, based on management priorities, policy directions, and goals.
  • Creates enhancements and modifications to current print initiatives.
  • Knows standards, technologies, and trends, and formulates strategies and plans for future enhancement of print initiatives.
  • Produces a consistent visual image in print platforms including maintenance of templates and image archives.
  • Ensures that projects are delivered within deadlines and quality standards.
  • Converts files from older Quark formats to current InDesign file format.
  • Develops, researches, writes/edits and creates layout for new sections/features.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Degree in design, advertising, or marketing preferred. Completed degrees may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis with portfolio approval.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (Required):

  • Candidate should be well versed in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, Acrobat & Microsoft products. PC & Mac based environment
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy are vital
  • Strong publication and problem-solving design skill
  • An understanding of print process and production is a must
  • Apply knowledge of color, layout, and composition elements for the print medium
  • Work as a team member or independently
  • Strive to meet or improve project schedules and quality
  • Maintain responsibility for the timely delivery of projects
  • Manage several projects at once, all in various stages
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE:

  • Layout & formatting of educational curriculum & other materials
  • Produce illustrations that fulfill content requirements
  • Digital image manipulation and correction for print
  • Converting documents into PDF
  • Document layout using Adobe InDesign and occasionally Quark working within templates and style guides
  • Detail oriented, requiring coordination and follow up of various tasks
  • Ability to work multiple priority projects concurrently
  • Strong communication skills
  • Work independently and efficiently
  • Initiative, accuracy, and professional appearance and conduct
  • Meet tight deadlines
