3 Things Your Homeschooler Can Learn from Sponsoring a Child

In addition to changing the life of a child across the globe, sponsoring a child can have a profound impact on the sponsorship family. Discover three ways your contributions can impact your homeschooler’s education and worldview.

Written Language Skills
Exchanging letters with the child you sponsor is a great way for your homeschooler to practice reading, writing, and penmanship skills. In a culture where we rely on technology for long-distance communication, snail mail also provides your child with a chance to learn about and use the postal system.

Geography and Culture
Sponsorship programs often support children who live abroad, which provides an excellent opportunity for your family to study that area of the world. In addition to conducting your own research, encourage your homeschooler to ask questions about the sponsor child’s homeland and culture. In return, provide a few notes about your state in the letter.

Perspective
Through both correspondence and research, children can gain an understanding of just how different life can be in another corner of the world. Relationships formed through sponsorship not only benefit the child you sponsor, but also are likely to fill your own child with a sense of gratitude for all he has in his life here in the states.
