Early Morning Singers

"O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth" (Psalm 96:1).

Their greeting surprised me that morning. As the sun rose, their warbling song filtered through the window and lifted my spirit with the hope of spring. My patience had been running thin for the past several weeks, and God knew that I needed a boost to finish our homeschooling year. With their joyful melodies ministering to my soul, I listened in amazement and smiled as I watched them sing. Their tiny bodies shook and resonated with sound, appearing as if they used their entire being. "Amazing," I thought to myself. "These little wrens do a better job of praising the Lord than I do."

Of all God's creation, humans seem to have the hardest time consistently praising God. Homeschoolers grow tired near the end of the school year and forget that God is in control. With impatient hearts and complaining spirits, we trudge on in our own effort as we push to the final homeschooling days before summer. Instead of singing praises to God for the homeschooling joys He has given, we forget our blessings and simply focus on getting through our schoolwork. Satan smiles as he realizes that he has succeeded in robbing us of our song.

How about you? Has it been awhile since God heard a song of praise from your lips? If you're experiencing difficulty in finding joy during these last days of homeschooling, you would do well to learn the lesson of praising the Lord from God's little wren. "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him" (Psalm 28:7).

Lord, forgive me for failing to praise and thank You for Your many blessings. Put a new song in my heart today and let me rejoice in the goodness of Your love. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

I just want to say that I am receiving these emails and have not started homeschooling yet -I am going to start this next coming school year. These devotionals are going to be a great encouragement to me as I begin this journey!

I never like to leave comment but just feel moved today to say thank you for your encouragement. I'm listening to the birds singing on this rainy morning and am reminded to sing praise to our awesome Lord even on the slow, rainy days.

Thanks! This just made me smile as we push ourselves to finish the school work up for this year. God has given us more blessings than I can count in our home school adventure. Praise Him from whom all blessing flow!

This devotion is so true to my heart. After enduring great grief, and losing the song in my heart, the Lord has restored the song in my heart once again...and I give Him praise and thanks!!! Not only did He restore the song in my heart, He gave me songs to write and record. He has done "exceedingly, abundantly above all..." I'd love for you to check out my website and hear a song from my new CD called "I Will Sing". http://www.melodiebower.com/ God Bless all as you SING UNTO THE LORD!

This week has been hard for me and my youngest. Thank you for the reminder to praise always. Homeschooling for me is a blessing and a chore, but God is always faithful. I am amazed. As I was typing this I had to change a word I could not remember how to spell. Then one of my girls was saying her bible verse and the word I could not spell was in the verse. I see God's hand everyday, but today He was really showing me his presence. I will praise instead of grumble. Peace and prayers Ladies. We serve an Awesome God!!!

I can\'t hear the song of most birds because of a hearing disability. I have never heard the birds that you hear, but I can stand on my front porch and watch them flit and play and when they are not doing that I know they are singing their song and yes, what an encouragement from God\'s creation! Ending a school year is always stressful. Not just getting to a stopping place, in this year\'s work, but also thinking about next year. But God reminds us to be anxious about nothing, but in everything give thanks.....

I pray for healing , our God is a Big God.

I have a little parakeet, \"Mrs. Chirpy\", I get to hear the beautiful chirping at all times of the day (sometimes she\'s crabby and \"racks\" a little).

But, when I hear her sometimes doing a sweet little chirp, it always touches my heart.

Similar to the way I treat Jesus, when Mrs. Chirpy is sick or we are worried about her, we sit and talk to her, watch her closley ECT. when she\'s o.k., we go about our day, and only spend a small amount of time paying attention to her.

Lord forgive me that the time I pay the most attention to you, is when I am sick or in need,

Let me pay attention to you and praise you in ALL times, not just in times of need.

Amen. And thank you Jesus for today !
