Entertaining and Educational Podcasts for Kids

In the early 2000s, the word “podcast” entered the world’s vernacular combining radio broadcasts with the portable media player iPod. Since its humble beginnings, the genre of podcasts has since exploded on the scene with increased accessibility on a plethora of devices and a massive market of users with a voracious appetite for information on their favorite topics.

Not surprisingly, today you can even find numerous podcasts that are a good learning source for children. See if your children enjoy these entertaining and educational podcasts for kids!

1. WOW in the World
An NPR podcast hosted by Mindy and Guy Raz, this podcast explores science by asking questions about the world and relating it to kids. For example, one of their episodes focuses on how Pokémon Go can help shy people make more friends, while another episode teaches about hermit crabs and why they fight for their shells.

2. Shabam!
Sponsored by Google, this fast-paced, quirky podcast uses fictional stories as a frame to teach listeners about science. It’s hosted by an emergency medicine physician, a science journalist, and a filmmaker who use their made-up stories to think about science and answer questions like how do you build a highway, what if an asteroid destroys a highway route, or how do you fix it?

3. Tumble
Another science podcast, this one is hosted by a science journalist and a teacher, who answer questions about the world and try to make science fun and fascinating for children. This podcast is more bare-bones, choosing to focus on the information and less on music or noises like the other two in our list.
