Crayons have been around for hundreds of years, but the first crayons made specifically for kids were created and sold by cousins Joseph Binny and C. Harold Smith from the east bank of the Hudson River in Peekskill, New York.
After their first introduction of the wax crayon in 1903, they released a box set of eight colors under the now famous name: Crayola Crayons. Today, Crayola has 120 distinct crayon colors, and according to a 1980 Yale University study, Crayons are one of the most recognizable scents in the United States.
Open up a colorful box (or go to the jumbled bucket) today, peel back some paper wrappers, and print out our free inspirational coloring sheet for your kids to enjoy!
