Homeschool FAQs: What Is Lapbooking?
If you’re looking for a way to foster your child’s interest in a subject or if you’ve been wishing for a system to dig deeper into a particular topic, lapbooking is a perfect solution!
First things first. What is lapbooking?
Lapbooks are hands-on, multi-sensory research projects that can be completed on any topic your child is interested in or that you deem important enough for a special project. Generally just a single folder, a lapbook can be filled with smaller booklets, foldables, and other materials.
So how do you do it?
Lapbooks can be used for special projects or as a staple to review and reinforce weekly work. If you are interested in supplementing your curriculum with a lapbook activity, you can either find a lapbooking set online (some for purchase and others for free) or you can even make your own!
Once you pick a topic, your child sets off on an information treasure hunt, using the lapbooking prompts as clues to search for gems about the topic. The lapbook helps organize all the details of the particular subject and gives hands-on learners the opportunity to really shine.
If you use lapbooks in your homeschool, what advice do you have for other homeschoolers who may be interested in getting started?
