Homeschool Hunger

The book I was hungry to read had been sitting on my desk for over two months. Stacked neatly in a pile with other half-read books, I wondered if I would ever get to read it. I wanted to be a successful homeschooling parent who remained teachable, but my limited time prevented me from indulging in every subject I loved. Instead, I challenged my intellect by thoroughly researching the subjects I taught my children.

There is another type of hunger, however, that homeschool parents must feed — a hunger for righteousness. We must come to the Lord expectantly each day to learn and digest what He desires to teach us from His Word. "Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name" (Psalm 86:11). Unlike other books, we cannot afford to leave our Bibles unread and stacked on our desks.

Isn't it time to become a student again and learn something new about God and His Word? How well do you know your Bible? Have you ever read through it entirely? Do you know how to cross reference Scripture, memorize verses, use a concordance, read maps, or find the Greek and Hebrew meaning of the words used in the verses? There is so much to learn. Don't stop with what you know. Grow! "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6).

Father, there is so much I have to learn about You. Restore to me the joy of discovering what an awesome and loving God You are! Teach me something new today and help me to hunger for more and more of Your wisdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Everytime I read the devotionals, I get so blessed. Thank you. This particular devotional confirmed what the Lord has been speaking to me about instilling bible study techniques into our curriculum; really to make bible study our main focus. If there is any subject that I'd like to have my kids know the most, it would be the word of God. Everything else is going to perish.

Wow, sounds like God has been sending Nikki & I the same messages & you all at Alpha Omega have been affirming and encouraging God's messages with your devotionals. I recently ordered your devotional book through the Homeschool Buyers Co-op and I am so excited! Because, like Nikki says "everytime I read the devotionals, I get so blessed" ! I know I"m repeating much of what Nikki said, but I've just been reminded so much lately that our focus needs to be on God in all of our homeschooling, that is one of the top 10 reasons we homeschool. And our relationship with the Lord, and the people we lead to him, are the only things we can take with us out of this word.

Thank you so much for your awesome devotionals!

May we give all dilegence to never be ashamed of the gospel of Christ! To know the gospel we must read, study, AND apply what we read in God's Word. "May we go to the Bible, speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent;do Bible things in Bible ways and call Bible things by Bible names. In faith, let there be unity; in opinion, let there be liberty; in all things, let there be charity. Let us be Christ's-nothing more, nothing less, nothing else!"

Thank you everyone for such wonderful words. I read these devotionals and I cherish them so much. As I read aloud I hear the words with my ears, but I feel like what is being spoken is directed right to my heart. Thank you Lord!!!

LOVE IT! Being new to homeschooling, I need things like this to keep me focused on why I made this decision. I want my children to be GOD focused rather than WORLD focused and I have to be an example to them. I can only do that if I am staying in the Word and being fed so that I can then properly nourish them! :)

I LOVE THIS DEVOTION, I HAVE NEVER GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO RECOGNIZING MAPS IN THE BIBLE, TO MEMORIZE LOTS OF VERSES, AND REFERRING TO THE DICTIONARY TO DEFINE SOME DIFFICULT BIBLE WORDS,, WOW SO SIMPLE YET IT SPEAKS TO MY HEART, AND I SURE WANT TO LEARN AND CHANGE MY OLD HABITS OF STUDYING!

I have been so blessed by these daily devotions, thank you Alpha Omega for taking the time to provide them. So many of them fit for what I am experiencing that day, God knows just what we need if we are willing to listen. They have helped me to grow closer to God and really enjoy my homeschooling experience. Teaching our children to put God first really helps to keep life in perspective. Thanks again for all your encouragement.

I am so bad in this area. I love God so much. I just can't get into my Bible reading and teaching like I should. I talk about Jesus all the time to my son, why not read to him. Next week's homeschool goal, start learning from the Bible, not my devotional books etc.

Maybe God will help us in all the other areas we are struggling in if we read the Bible. Everyone have a Blessed day!

Olivia, Keep up the good work!

Judy H.

This is the most important message. Growing in our relationship with the Lord and His people can not take place apart from a knowledge of His life giving Word. To know by His Spirit, His Rightousness, Power, His Love, His Faithfulness. He speaks to us by His Word.
