Homeschool Mom Running for School Board

A Florida woman is hoping to share her knowledge and experience as a homeschool mom with her local school district by running for a seat on the school board.
Rebekah Ricks is the founder of The Homeschool Connection, which offers tutoring and upper-level homeschool classes to assist families in educating their children. She also has nearly a decade of experience teaching in a private school. If elected, she wants to bring a fresh perspective and a renewed focus on curriculum to the school board.
“There’s not really a lot of variety in who’s on the school board right now,” Ricks told The Ledger newspaper.
Ricks also told WTSP News that she would work hard to end Common Core. In addition, she would like to cut financial waste and expand the district’s career academies.
“Giving (students) an academy gives them a purpose,” she said. “Each student can say there’s an end goal for graduating.”
This year’s election for the Polk County School Board in Florida is scheduled for August 30.
