Homeschooled Soldier Held Hostage

The Pentagon confirmed on July 19, 2009, that Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl, 23, who was serving with an Alaska-based infantry regiment, was taken hostage by the Taliban near the border of Pakistan. A propaganda video posted online by the Taliban provided the first public glimpse of Bergdahl since he went missing. In the video Bergdahl said, "Well, I'm scared; scared I won't be able to go home. It is very unnerving to be a prisoner." Later, he choked up when discussing his family and his hopes to marry his girlfriend: "I have a very, very good family that I love back home in America, and I miss them every day when I'm gone."

Bergdahl comes from a small town in Idaho, where he was homeschooled by his parents. His family has issued a statement through the Department of Defense asking people to respect their privacy and keep their son in their thoughts and prayers.

"We hope and pray for our son's safe return to his comrades and our family. We appreciate all the support and expressions of sympathy shown to us by our family members, our friends, and others across the nation," said his father, Bob Bergdahl. "Thank you and please continue to keep Bowe in your thoughts and prayers."

As a Christian homeschooling community, please get the word out and join the entire town of Hailey, Idaho, as they pray for the safe and quick return of this young man. Pray also for God's peace, strength, and comfort, as the members of his homeschool family face the uncertain resolution to their son's captivity.

My heart goes out to you. My family and I will keep your son and you folks in our prayers. Our family is actively involved in developing equipment to help protect our soldiers while they are serving us in foreign lands. We love and have a great deal of respect for those men and women in uniform working to protect us. God bless you!

My heart aches for your son and your family. We will be praying for you and him until his release. God bless you. Remember Psalms 121: 3-4. God never sleeps or takes a vacation, He is always watching over us.

We will keep the Bergdahl family in our prayers. We will ask God to protect Bowe and to allow his testimony now and in the future to be a shining light of God\'s love and grace. We will also ask for strength and peace for those who are waiting patiently for their loved one\'s safe return.

May God bless you now and in the days ahead.
