How Much Fun Does Your State Hold?

Few words in the English language can be more subjective than “fun.” After all, most parents can tell you that their definition of “fun” can be very different from those of their children. However, that didn’t stop the people at WalletHub from trying to rank all 50 of the U.S. states according to their level of fun.

Taking into consideration over 25 metrics, the rankings placed an 80% weight on entertainment and recreation, which took into account everything from restaurants to golf courses, national parks, shoreline mileage, fitness centers, and more. The remaining 20% was calculated from a nightlife category that factored in music festivals, movie costs, and performing arts theaters.

When all the numbers were tallied, The Golden State of California walked away with first place. Florida and New York completed the top 3, while Washington and Colorado rounded out the top five. At the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia earned the unwanted distinction as the least fun state. The Mountain State finished just below Mississippi and Delaware.
