Kirk Cameron Creates Film on Parenting Kids in a Social Media World

Connect, a Kirk Cameron film about parenting kids in a social media world, hits select theaters this week in a special two-night, nationwide event.

Best-known for his role as Mike Seaver on the sitcom Growing Pains, Cameron has since starred in the Left Behind series and the marriage-centered film Fireproof. He met his wife, Chelsea Noble, on the set of Growing Pains, and they’ve now been married over 25 years. Together, they have six children who inspired the Connect film.

After giving his children their own smart phones, Cameron attempts to get to the bottom of how they interact with technology by talking to experts, including Dr. Kathy Koch, Mark Gregston, and Ken Graves.

“In an online world that creates an illusion of reality and 'friends' through social media, apps, and 'followers,' Connect pulls back the curtain to the benefits, dangers, and boundaries that every parent, teacher, pastor, or youth leader should consider while monitoring and utilizing technology in our children's lives,” said a promotional statement written in The Christian Post.

Cameron said his family is pro-technology, but he stresses that parents cannot overemphasize the importance of setting boundaries to protect our families.

"God-fearing parents can find confidence and guidance when it comes to the challenges of parenting in our technology-driven world, knowing that God has fully equipped us for the sacred calling as a parent," Cameron said in a statement to The Christian Post "We have resources to prepare our children as they learn their purpose and identity, and responsibly use technology to understand family, friends, God, and the world around them."
