Patriotic Sun Catchers

Celebrate the summer holiday with some red, white, and blue. Your kids will love this fun and easy Fourth of July craft, and you’ll love the memories you make even more. So gather all those broken crayons around the house and turn them into a beautiful sun catcher to enjoy all summer long.

Materials
Different shades of red and blue crayons
Wax paper
Parchment
Manual sharpener or knife
Iron
Star stencil or cookie cutter
Ribbon

Directions
1. Remove the paper from the crayons and sharpen with a manual sharpener. If the crayons are broken or too small, have an adult use a knife to shave or chop the crayon into tiny pieces.

2. Place each color of the crayon shavings on a separate piece of wax paper, approximately 12x12 inches. You only need 1 crayon per wax paper. Fold the wax paper in half and double-fold the edges to create an envelope that contains the shavings.

3. Place the wax paper envelope between a large piece of folded parchment paper. Using a low setting on the iron, let the melted crayon run in the wax paper envelope filling it with color. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.

4. Once cool, use a pencil to trace large stars om the wax paper envelopes. Since the wax paper is thin, you will be able to cut through it with scissors. Punch a hole in your stars and hang them in your window.
