Signs of Christ

If your homeschooling family is like most, there are probably many symbols of your faith located in your home. We had several crosses throughout the house that our children made during art class, and our refrigerator was plastered with new Sunday school papers each week. We had the word "Jesus" made with barbed wire and hung on the wall in the kitchen. We even had a screen-saver on our computer's desktop with changing pictures and Scripture passages.

The most unique signs we had of our faith were the computer-generated Scripture plaques my son made for art class. Printed, laminated, and located in strategic places throughout our home, we had God's Word to see and memorize everywhere we went. Scripture passages were on the bathroom mirror, the bed headboard, and the kitchen windows above the sink, and even by the speedometer in the car. These wonderful symbols of God's written promises encouraged us and proclaimed our faith to all who entered our home.

More important than the symbols we have on the outside of our lives is the symbol and seal of the Holy Spirit that we receive on the inside when we become a child of God (Ephesians 1:13). The indwelling Holy Spirit is a reminder of the future inheritance we have in Christ (Ephesians 1:14). We see the power of God as we yield our lives to His control, and He even displays His fruit in us for others to see (Galatians 5:22-23).

How do you display your faith for others to see? What does that cross stand for on the bumper of your car or the front door of your house? Is it just another decoration? If you identify with the One who died upon it for your sins, let His forgiveness change your life. Become a symbol of His unconditional love for the whole world to see! "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross and Your willingness to suffer and die for my sins. I thank You again today for the Holy Spirit's presence in my life. Let both my home and my life symbolize Your love, so others will see the way to eternal life. In Your blessed name, Amen.

I am SO blessed to have a talented artist friend. She's not your typical talented artist - everything she does is for the Lord. She is especially gifted at making beautiful scripture plaques on thin pieces of wood that hang from ribbons. I have them all over my house. She paints the backgrounds to match your decor or taste. I have one for each of my 5 children with their name and a scripture, they are in my kitchen, schoolroom, and all over! Her blog has some pictures somewhere: http://www.and2became5.blogspot.com/. They run $15-35 depending on how big and how complicated the art is (my one for the homeschool room has birds painted behind the scripture). It is so great to see them and be reminded of the "why" we do things!

We have begun a new church, and as a new work in Christ are trying to memorize God's Holy Word as a group. We try to memorize a verse a month - some are lengthy. The verse is in our church bulletin, so we cut it out and tape it strategically around our home where we spend our most time throughout the day. We keep eachother accountable. We know that at the end of a year, we will each have 12 new verses of God's word to hide in our hearts and will hopefully help each of us in our walk for Him. Jody F.

Romans 12:1 and 1Peter 2:5 remind us of our responsibility to live Godly lives if we are in Christ. May we all strive to live each day in Christ and pleasing and acceptable to God and His will. May He bless our efforts to instill this respect and love for Him in our children as we homescool.

Thank you for this sweet encouragement. I will be adding Scripture to our car and the backs of the seats so that the children are reminded of whose they are....children of God!

What a timely word...with all us homeschoollers opening the doors to family and friends during holidays....the way we decorate our lives speaks volumes...and inspire w/ profound silence so the Holy Ghost can work without us frusterating things..

I love that idea and it makes me think of the scripture passage Deuteronomy 6:4-9. God's word is our guide it's awesome to be reminded daily in all that you do around your home of his presence, thank you for that :)

Agree with Holly P. I am now inspired to place scripture all over our house. I definitely believe this will help our kids and us to memorize bible verses so that we can apply them to our daily lives. Faith C

Thank you for this inspiring idea to leave encouragement from scripture all through the house! Love these daily encouragements also.

AIDA G 11/13/2012 12:46:25

It\'s funny, but I have prayers posted up, scriptures and pictures. Interesting how all that reminds us of His Living Word within us, Him :)

KATHY S 11/13/2012 21:31:25

Well, I have the 10 commandments right above my son\'s bed.

We each have crosses in our bedrooms.

I don\'t know if I will \"redecorate\" lierally, But I will \"decorate\" our hearts with Jesus so that it can be seen by all!

Great devotional as always, Thank you!!
