The Average Mom Clocks a 14-Hour Work Day

The latest study of 2,000 working moms of children between the ages of 5-12 revealed that the average mom puts in 98 hours of work a week.

According to the survey conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by Welch’s to promote the company’s easy nutrition options for a busy family, the average mom clocks in at 6:23 a.m. and doesn’t stop tasks related to her career or family until 8:31 p.m. That amounts to a typical 14-hour work day.

“The results of the survey highlight just how demanding the role of mom can be and the non-stop barrage of tasks it consists of,” said Casey Lewis, a health and nutrition lead at Welch’s, in an article from SWNS Media Group.

To make such a busy lifestyle work, selfless moms have no choice but to give up their personal time. A typical mom averages only 67 minutes of time to herself daily. Mothers in the survey listed perfect hair, sleep, privacy, long showers, and socialization with friends as some of their most common sacrifices.

Moms in the survey also were asked to identify their favorite “life savers” that help them make it through their exhausting weeks. Wet wipes topped the list, while a regular supply of coffee, yoga pants, a reliable babysitter, and a stash of homemade meals in the freezer also made the top 20.
