The Last Thing I Need

Learning not to give unsolicited advice to my homeschooled children was difficult as they were growing older. I usually went overboard in my explanations in case something would go wrong. I wanted to save them from failure, expense, and pain. However, I learned that some of the most amazing lessons are taught to our children when we wait to rescue them. As they struggle to find the correct answer or make the right decision, they are being prepared for a life led by the Lord.

Both Mary and Martha were looking for answers in their grief. Their brother Lazarus had died because Jesus had not arrived in time. Jesus could have gotten to Bethany much quicker than He did, but He chose to wait two extra days (John 11:6). Martha responded by telling the Lord that if He had been there, He could have saved her brother (John 11:21). When Christ said to roll away the stone of Lazarus' grave, Martha offered advice the Lord didn't need to hear a second time when she said, "Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days" (John 11:39b). Martha's limited faith was being challenged to become an unlimited faith in Jesus. Christ proved He not only could heal the sick, but He was also able to raise someone from the dead.

Does your faith limit God in what He can or cannot do in your life? Are you willing to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10)? God knows what He is doing, and the last thing He needs is your advice. He is waiting to see if you will trust and believe in Him for the impossible, instead of telling Him what to do. Will you trust Him today for the answers you need?

Lord, You are a great and mighty God who doesn't need my help or advice. Forgive me for telling You what to do and limiting what You want to do in my life. Help me today to trust in Your way and Your will. In Jesus' name, Amen.

As someone who is waiting to take a leap in faith and begin homeschooling, I needed to hear this! I am waiting for the kids Christmas break as not to completely interrupt their schooling. I have my doubts and fears of being a fit teacher to my children. Thank you for this reminder that God WILL not let me fail as long as I surrender to Him!

Life seems so chaotic lately, with so many things to do. This morning I read a devotional with my children in which we had to read ALL of Psalm 46. I lingered on verse 10 about being still and knowing HE is God. I tried to rest my mind on that verse. Later this afternoon I decided to just go out and enjoy the beautiful fall day, so we went to the park. It was refreshing amid concerns of trying to get this and that done. I just wanted my four children and I to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the outdoors. When I returned home later and checked email, etc. I came to the Daily Focus where my Father reminded me of His Word which I read earlier, "Be still and know that I am God." I rejoice in His abiding presence with me. He always brings back His Word after i've read it. He confirms in it another place and it is so timely. I praise Him for this... although I am earthbound He continues to draw me into His presence and speak to me through His Word. The key is spending time with Him and coming aside with the living Word. He will not fail to meet us there. I am being a little more "still" today.

We need to let our children struggle so they will develop the habit of seeking help from us and the Lord...Humility

I have been sick for days and have felt so unbelievably guilty! Thank you for reminding me that God has got my child covered. even when I can't. He has allowed me to have many teachable moments with son this week, without hitting the books! Maybe He wants to show me that staying "busy" does not in and of itself serve His purpose in our lives.

It is funny how what I needed to hear was the daily devotional. God works in mysterious ways and knows how to tells us exactly what we need to hear!
