The Most Promising Jobs in America

Jobs in health care, technology, and finance stole the show when LinkedIn recently released its inaugural list of the most promising jobs in America.

To compile the Top 20, LinkedIn ranked occupations based on high median salaries, strong job openings, year-over-year growth, and the likelihood of advancement within an organization. In addition, the social networking company reviewed skills listed under member profiles in comparison to their job titles.

Garnering the list’s top spot was the occupation of hospitalist, a title that was first coined in a 1996 New England Journal of Medicine article. Hospitalists are physicians whose primary focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Their activities include caring for patients, teaching, researching, and providing leadership related to hospital medicine. Rounding out the top 10 was scrum master, which does not refer to a rugby player, but rather to a less dangerous occupation that leads a software development team.

To help prepare students for many of these jobs, Alpha Omega Publications offers over 40 career courses that provide foundational knowledge and job-specific training. Available for grades 6-12, these courses teach employable skills that have real-world relevance and equip homeschoolers to succeed as lifelong learners.
