The Safest Cities in America

California is home to nine of the top 25 safest cities in the United States according to new ratings from the ranking site Niche.

While the Golden State dominated the rankings, the honor of safest city in the country went to Naperville, Illinois. The wealthy Chicago suburb earned the top spot over nearly 10,000 places based on violent and property crime rates, as well as over 100 million total resident reviews. Throughout the country as a whole, FBI statistics report that violent crime rates fell 50% over the past two decades.

In addition to California, only three other states placed multiple cities in the safety rankings. With five cities included, Texas accounted for 20% of the top 25, led by the Austin suburb Round Rock at #5. Colorado college cities Boulder and Fort Collins made the cut, while Florida had two cities in the top 10 with Port St. Lucie and Cape Coral.
