Ways to Bless Your Pastor

“But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction” (1 Thessalonians 5:12).

Pastors take on a special role in the church by accepting the responsibilities of spiritual instruction. Since the hardest parts of their job are often done behind the scenes and without much thanks, here are a few simple ways you can bless your pastor.

Words
Do not underestimate the power of a genuine word of encouragement. You never know when your words can completely change your pastor’s day. Tell your pastor what you specifically appreciate about them and do it often!

Act of Service
Pastors often have the biggest servant hearts. Consequently, they can easily forget to ask for help when they need it. Be in the habit of asking your pastor if there is anything you can do to serve them, whether as a gift to their family at home or right at the church.

Generosity
While a pastor’s salary is paid by the offerings of the church, their position is unique in that hard work does not always result in a raise. Because the post is a ministry, pastors often accept less compensation than they need to be financially stable. If you’re able, give generously to your pastors to show them you do not take the important work they do for granted.

Participation
Saying no to things is important for a healthy life balance, but to the extent you are able, remember that participating at your church is a great way to bless your pastor. The activities at church, the books recommended for studies, and even the service projects your church undertakes are all part of the vision God has given your church’s leadership team. By participating and choosing to honor that vision, you can bless your pastor.
