Western Cities Dominate Healthy City Rankings

The healthiest cities in America can claim many similarities, including the fact that 9 of the top 10 are located west of the Rockies.

To determine the heathiest city in America, analysts at WalletHub compared 150 of the nation’s most populous cities, excluding suburbs, in the categories of health care, food, fitness, and green space. The number of fitness clubs per person, fruit and vegetable consumption, and cost of doctor visits were examples listed as key indicators of good health.

5. Portland, OR

7. Huntington Beach, CA
8. Honolulu, HI
9. Washington, DC

While the West Coast was home to many of the healthiest cities, three of the bottom six listed in the rankings were in Texas. However, the Lone Star State can’t claim the least healthy city in America. That infamous designation went to Detroit, Michigan.
