Homeschooling FAQs: Is AOP Curriculum Accredited?

Find a quick answer to four of the most commonly asked questions that the customer service team at Alpha Omega Publications receives about accreditation.

Q: What is accreditation?
A: Accreditation is verification by an outside agency that a school is meeting appropriate expectations and is actively pursuing excellence by improving school standards.

Q: Is AOP curriculum accredited?
A: No, only an educational institution can be accredited. Curriculum alone cannot be accredited; it can only be accredited as part of an institution’s program. In other words, because Monarch, LIFEPAC, and Horizons are not schools, they cannot be accredited.

Q: Are only physical schools accredited?
A: No, Ignite Christian Academy is a fully accredited online school that uses Alpha Omega Publications curriculum. Ignite Christian Academy is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), a division of AdvancED, the world’s most trusted and recognized accrediting organization, representing over 36,000 schools.

Q: Does accreditation through Ignite Christian Academy help my child get into college?
A: Accreditation ensures only that students were schooled through an institution that has earned recognition for its programs, practices, and rigor. Colleges and universities are often more likely to recognize achievement from accredited schools; however, college acceptance ultimately depends on each college's admission process and how attractive a student is as a candidate, based on grades, ACT or SAT scores, and other considerations.

I am withdrawing my son from public school. He is a senior, but is willing to start all over with his 12th grade credits. Can he still earn an accredited diploma through AlphaOmega Academy, although he only has one year left? if so, how much will this cost me?

Brandi,

Yes! Officially, students transferring from accredited schools must earn at least 5.5 credits through the academy to graduate, and his high school credits earned prior to academy enrollment can be accepted based on official transcripts. As far as pricing goes, 6 credits for a high school senior is only $300/month. https://www.aoacademy.com/our-program/tuition/

Hi, I have been doing monarch AOP online school since the beginning of October. I have gone to regular school all my life, (K through 10th grade). So, what you are saying is that when I complete my paid Monarch school at the end of 12th grade, I will have NO credits and won’t be able to get into a college? Will I have to take separate GED classes? What??? This is ridiculous. My family pays so much money for my education just for it to not even matter. Please respond.

Thanks for your question. I understand your concern. While Monarch (and all other curricula) are not accredited, many colleges may accept your coursework; however, that's officially up to your college's discretion. That's also why recordkeeping is important for homeschoolers. Any credits earned at your regular school through 10th grade are also valid.

My best suggestion is to contact the college of your choice, and tell them your story, and I think you'll find out that many colleges are welcoming to homeschool families!

So I'm totally confused is this an accredited school or not?

CARL V.S. 12/16/2019 13:39:33

Thanks for your question, Lauren. Alpha Omega Academy (aoacademy.com) is an accredited school. However, many people ask us if our AOP curriculum (Monarch, SOS, LIFEPAC, Horizons) is accredited. The answer to that is no because curriculum cannot be accredited, only institutions. Hope that helps!
