Leading Research: At-Home Instruction May Offer Most Effective Education

At the start of a traditional school calendar year, more publications are citing homeschooling as the most effective method of educating children in today’s world.

“You're not going to be put in a work environment where everybody came from the same school and everybody is the same age,” said homeschool mom Alison Davis in a Business Insider article titled “Homeschooling is the smartest way to teach kids in the 21st century.” “In my opinion, the traditional school atmosphere is not the real world at all.”

The article cites the effectiveness of customized learning as just one of the many reasons why homeschooling has grown approximately 62% in the last decade, now accounting for 4% of all youth in the United States.

“All students are unique individuals with their own hopes, talents, anxieties, fears, passions, and aspirations,” wrote teacher and TED speaker Ken Robinson. “Engaging them as individuals is the heart of raising achievement.”

The high-level of personalization in homeschooling has had a huge impact on standardized tests. According to the most recent study, homeschoolers ranked in the 86th percentile. In addition, research indicates that homeschool students are getting accepted into colleges at a higher rate and outperforming their peers in the classroom.
