No Child Left Behind

"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common." (Acts 4:32)
After knowing the pain of "cliques" in traditional school, I was determined that my older children would never habitually leave their younger siblings out of activities. Yes, each child had their individual interests and times for being alone, but for the most part, we were a team - a homeschooling family. Each day as we worked and studied, we learned to put our own desires aside for the betterment of someone else, including little brothers and sisters. The joy that comes from serving one another was eventually achieved and today my four adult children remain very close.
God also desires His family to stay close as they reach out to each other with love and good deeds. Unfortunately, as believers, we can get so busy with our own schedules that we forget to include others in our lives. Our vision turns inward rather than outward and we fail to serve and minister to the larger body of Christ. With barely enough energy to serve our own family, it's easy to make excuses or listen to Satan's tempting "What about me?" thoughts. However, like the early church in Acts 4, God wants us to lay down our lives even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister (Mark 10:45).
What ministry opportunity does God keep setting before you? Don't be the one who fails to reach out with love or invite someone into the family of God. "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:10)
Lord,
You've said, "The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few." Strengthen me today to become a laborer of Your love as I give my life in service for others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
