Homeschoolers in central Ohio are turning out in large numbers at their public libraries for educational programs directed specifically at benefitting homeschool families.
“We look to provide educational resources to the community and provide them with things they can’t get any other place,” said Meghan Douglas, who works as a children’s services assistant at the Licking County Library in Newark, Ohio. “We like to include the homeschool families because we have a lot of resources at the library for them.”
According to the Licking County News, most of the library branches in the county offer an organized homeschool series. The programs take state educational standards into account and are designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade; however, many homeschool parents also bring along younger siblings.
“Every one we’ve done this year, we’ve had to open for the second session,” said Hebron Branch Supervisor Deirdre McIntyre.
Based on library surveys, the most popular topics homeschool parents wanted to see the library focus on included lessons and activities about art, science, and technology.
