10 Poems that Teach Children How to Write Numerals

For a child, learning to write letters and numbers is a tricky business. Make the learning process easier with 10 poems that give helpful hints for writing the numbers zero through nine in numeral form.

1. Straight line down and then we’re done. That’s the way to make a one.

2. Around and back on the railroad track. Two! Two! Two! Two!

3. Around a tree, around a tree, that’s the way to make a three.

4. Down and over, down some more, that’s the way to make a four.

5. Back across, then down with a line. Now go around and five looks fine.

6. A stick down, then a loop to some tricks. That’s the way to make a six.

7. Across the sky and down from heaven. That’s the way to make a seven.

8. Make an S but do not wait. Go back up to make an eight.

9. A loop on top, then down with a line. That’s the way to make a nine.

10. Straight line down, then around the bend. That’s the way to a make a ten.
