9 Things You Don’t Have to Do the First Day of Homeschool

As homeschool parents and students, the first day of school comes with just as much excitement as your public or private school counterparts. After all, fresh starts and clean notebooks are always exciting. However, there are also many things homeschoolers can be thankful they can skip on the first day. Check out 9 of our favorite things you don’t have to do on the first day of homeschool:
1. Host an open house night. You already met your students’ dad long ago.
2. Introduce yourself. They learned pretty quickly to say, “Mom, Mom, MOM!”
3. Worry about what you’re wearing. Your students have even seen you without makeup.
4. Avoid a back injury. When your students live on campus, you can save them from lugging around an overstuffed backpack on the first day.
5. Catch the bus. You have lots of time to prepare a nutritious, warm breakfast.
6. Learn your students’ names. Once you and your husband finally agreed on a name, you’ve never forgotten them.
7. Purchase specific items on a school supply list. Who needs Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencils when you can choose from a wide assortment of options in your family’s pencil collection?
8. Stay inside. Fall usually offers many great days for outdoor learning.
9. Say goodbye. After all, you couldn’t wait for the school year to start because it meant more time teaching and loving your children.

I think the assumption that all at-homes are female is a little insulting. There are some men who do work from home, who have taken on the responsibility of homeschooling as well. #1 and #2 seem a little prejudice to a specific sex.
