AOP Participates in U.S.-Ireland Homeschool Partnership

Alpha Omega Publications has partnered with HSLDA to help provide homeschoolers in Ireland with Christian curriculum.

While homeschooling is legal on the island located in the North Atlantic, there are many challenges, including opposition from many Christians in the country and a skeptical university system that accepts few Christian curriculums.

“We have found from talking to parents that they are eager to teach a biblical curriculum, but there just aren’t any available [in Ireland],” said Ruth Redmond, a representative for the Irish Christian Home Education Association (ICHEA). “We are grateful to partner with U.S.-based companies such as…Alpha Omega Publications…to make samples of their curriculum available to our conference attendees. Parents were excited to take the samples just to try them out and see if they worked.”

AOP curriculum was available at the first ICHEA Homeschool Conference, which took place July 10-11, 2015, in Athlone, a city near the geographical center of Ireland. Nearly 100 parents were in attendance, which inspired ICHEA leaders to make the conference a yearly endeavor.

“Everyone was so encouraged and ready to press on,” Redmond said. “We felt that God was confirming to us that there were lots of people needing support, and there are even more people wanting to homeschool through Christian means and are unable or unaware that this is a possibility to them.”
